Volunteer in Peru in our medical programs and leave your mark! You will be placed in medical centers located in disadvantaged areas around Peru, providing care mainly to low income families. These medical centers are not well equipped and most of the time there is not enough medical staff to meet all the demands of the patients.
The health project is particularly suitable for Pre medical and Medical students who want to gain valuable clinical experience. All the volunteers in this program work alongside and in assistance of the local doctors and nurses.
Pre-med students can help the medical staff taking weight, height, blood pressure, heart rate and temperature, making beds, cleaning, preparing materials, administering vaccinations and sterilizing equipment. Med students with previous medical experience or good grasp of Spanish will be shadowing a doctor and will be asked to clean wounds, give injections, sutures, consult rooms and specialized departments, assisting doctors taking physicals and histories and drawing blood samples.
If you apply for this program you have the choice of working in three different cities across Peru.
You can choose between projects in Arequipa, Peru’s beautiful white-stone city shadowed by the famous El Misti Volcano; Cusco, the Inca capital and the archaeological capital of the Americas; and Iquitos, the gateway to the Peruvian Amazon.
Each volunteer needs to bring medical scrubs, medical gloves, shoes and first aid kit to work with.

HenceYouCheck out the HIV/AIDS prevention program in for medical volunteers in Uganda. Since the country has been greatly affected by the AIDS epidemic, Uganda is home to more than 1 million AIDS orphans. Therefore, you will provide much-needed services through HIV/AIDS education and awareness, counseling and training, testing, and other duties. To apply, you must be a medical student, EMT or paramedic, or a nurse or physician. This program starts from $250 for your first week in Uganda.
Volunteer in Uganda in our health awareness projects. Uganda is at the heart of the sub-Saharan HIV/AIDS pandemic. Hence, an estimated 25.4 million people are living with HIV and approximately 3.1 million new infections occurred in 2004. In 2004, an estimated 2.3 million people lost their lives to the disease. Widowed mothers and elderly widowed grandmothers are the predominant heads of households.
HIV/AIDS results in a progressive depletion of the immune system leading to immune deficiency. This is why the weakened immune system is vulnerable to secondary diseases. However, access to medical care is non-existent for many Ugandans where almost half the population lives in absolute poverty.
Since most rural areas are severely lacking in services and HIV/AIDS awareness, nearly every family has had someone who is sick or has died from AIDS. Hence education continues as a primary weapon in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Therefore, awareness programs are provided at the community level, to schools and institutions, and at the personal level with individual counselling and home visits. Music and dramas by people living with HIV/AIDS can greatly contribute to educate local people. Also educational films help to enhance the awareness.
You may choose to participate in one or more of the folowwing areas: HIV /AIDS Education and Awareness; HIV/AIDS Counselling Training (TOT); Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT). Please note: volunteers need to have a certification or proof of experience in a medical field, such as a medical student ID, EMT or paramedic certification, or nursing or physician’s credentials to participate in this Project.
Rescue Orphaned Monkeys: Make part of the vervet monkeys animal conservation volunteer program in South Africa. We need help with the integration of the foster moms of 23 little orphans back into the troops.
Join the family at this amazing primate sanctuary in South Africa. At this special initiative, orphaned primates come from near and far and are given a loving home where they are rehabilitated and cared for until they can be released back into the wild.
With over 500 cheeky monkeys in care at any one time, this sanctuary always needs an extra pair of helping hands. Your participation will help to ensure they are all well fed, cared for and loved; and will help raise funds to maintain the place up to scratch for its gorgeous guests.
This is an incredible option for those who go bananas for animals as you will get the chance to work hands on the vervet monkeys, under the guidance of experienced professionals. At other occasions, you will be helping to carry out all the back-stage tasks which really ensure the monkeys’ wellbeing.
“I’m having a wonderful time here and there is nothing that I don’t like.” Gijs van Suijlichem in our South African program
At the same time you will get to experience the amazing wildlife in the African bush, and make friends you will remember forever – some furry and some a little less so.
Volunteer in Uganda and help to save and protect the biodiversity of the environment. Uganda depends heavily on environment and natural resources. However, the country suffers from environmental problems that put the economic, environmental and social development at risk. IKPVA’s biodiversity and environmental protection program offer participants with both valuable life-changing experience and an opportunity to make a difference.
Participants in the Volunteer in Uganda program do hands-on work and have a direct impact on the preservation of the environment in the host communities. Volunteers may help to integrate environmental curriculum in schools; promote sustainable utilization of natural resources— proper sanitation practices and alternative energy practices; promote environmental awareness activities— wastewater management, recycling, environmental youth clubs and park management; as well as promoting environmental approaches— sustainable agriculture, fuel efficient stoves and various agri-business strategies.
The program provides international participants with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in agro-forestry, tree planting and reforestation, with focus on the Western Uganda Highlands. The program brings together international volunteers on a regular basis to construct nurseries both with schools and communities, transplanting trees to degraded forest sites and train communities on agro-forestry techniques. Some of the activities depend on the current season. Please note, participants in our volunteer in Uganda environment program do not need to be a qualified or experienced to participate on these projects, however volunteers with special expertise are highly preferred.

I was in Mombassa for around 4 months and I was nineteen years old. I didn’t know what to study yet or what to do with my life I had just finished high school. Just being there with the people was a life changing experience, I had the best time in Cannan Orphanage, the kids are the most beautiful kids I´ve ever seen, teaching them and playing with them was so fulfilling.
Also the country is beautiful, in the weekends I would book tours and excursions around Mombassa and see everything Kenya has to offer. At the end I left like a different person, it was by far the best 4 months of my life. Because of that experience I decided to go into Clinical Nutrition in university and do more volunteering like this in the future.
