Sam and his girlfriend went to Ecuador, to save an Amazon Community, and found the people were beyond amazing:
So my girlfriend and I spent a week and a few days in a little village called Las Tolas. The people there were beyond amazing! They were happy, supportive and generally loved life. They were such a good and connected community. Everyone knew everyone!
The days off from work were awesome, as we got to go to little waterfalls with the village’s personal guide, Solomon. He was very insightful and knowledgeable about basically everything in the area. From the local humming birds to the different rocks on the side of the rivers. He knew every town, and seemingly every person that inhabited it.
Our family were overly happy to have us and we were overly happy to spent time with them. We worked hard during most days, out in different farms, but I wouldn’t have traded the views for anything. Jaw-dropping stuff. It was an insane trip and I would do it again in a heart beat! Thanks for every one at Iko Poran and Las Tolas organisations for making this happen. – Sam, 22 years, Melbourne
This charming country is one of the most bio-diverse countries in the World and offers some of the greatest wonders of nature. It is a very inexpensive country with great food and friendly people. Actually, Ecuadorians are the nation’s greatest treasure: kind, warm-hearted, tranquil and generous.
Iko Poran volunteers have a different mix of opportunities in this Amazon Community inside the Rain Forest. Volunteers may teach English, work in the vegetable gardens, in the medicinal plant section, plant trees on the re-forestation project, work in the plant nursery, work in the craft workshop, plant coffee trees and pick coffee beans, hand milk cows, create footpaths in the cloud forest, and much more. Volunteers have a very personal experience with a flexible approach, which guarantees that different volunteering activities can be chosen and tried during their placements.
All of this is complemented by a wide range of leisure activities.
Join us for the experience of your lifetime!!
It will be better if the connection with local family is improved. Sometimes the internet is not good in this small village, so volunteers need someone who can speak english well.

In the Artisan Shop of Renée and Mariana you can work as a volunteer in the arts and crafts, and thereby develop your artistic skills. Working in the shop, you can learn the techniques of Ecuadorian arts and crafts and create your own jewelry!
Together with the group “Taller” Mariana and Renée have opened the craft shop to create a new source of income for the village population. The Taller group began work ten years ago and acted as a catalyst in the community. In doing so, Mariana and Renée also adopt an ecological approach: they create the handicrafts of seeds and materials, which they sustainably grow and harvest in the cloud forest. As a volunteer, you will not only learn how to make modern and traditional jewelry from natural materials, you will also get insights and culture.
The artistic production is closely linked to the history of the indigenous Yumbo people and the initiative for reforestation in the educadorian cloud forest.
So, with your volunteer work in the craft shop, you will not only help generate income for the villagers, but you will also be actively involved in environmental change in the rainforest region of Ecuador. A truly sustainable volunteer project that will also familiarize you with the culture and the Spanish language.
Iko Poran offers a wide range of activities for volunteers in the village Last Tolas in the cloud forest of the Ecuadorian Andes. You can choose whether you would rather teach English at the school, work in the vegetable gardens or nurture the herbal garden with medicinal plants. If you want to engage in ecology and environmental protection, you can plant trees as part of the reforestation project, or work in the nursery.
You can even plant coffee trees and pick coffee beans or milk the cows on the farm. For gentle tourism, you can help create footpaths in the cloud forest and much more. If your heart beats for the arts, try the handicraft shop selling souvenirs, where you can also learn how to do handicrafts.

Work as a reforestation volunteer in Ecuador’s cloud forest in order to help achieving long-lasting positive results both for the environment and the local people. Since the local government has asked the community to plant and grow 20,000 trees to use for reforestation work across the region, you work as a reforestation volunteer is vital for the project. Alongside this, the community group have also come together and bought a piece of land, where they would like to plant coffee plants and trees to grow and use for reforestation work in the area.
The cloud forest and the trees within them form a vital part of the life and work of the community and this reforestation project will make a big difference. The community would love volunteer assistance to contribute towards this important ecological project and to the community for years to come.
