It will be better if the connection with local family is improved. Sometimes the internet is not good in this small village, so volunteers need someone who can speak english well.

Nerissa Perumal (Kim), from South Africa, teaching in Tanzania.
Volunteer in Tanzania in our teaching project. This is a project that requires a lot of dedication and enthusiasm. You will have the opportunity of supporting a nursery/primary school (children aged 3-11) or a secondary school (teenagers aged 11-16), both located within at only five minutes walking distance from the hostel. Everyday you will be dealing with 60 children between the ages 3 and 16 depending on the school you choose. They will be very excited for you to teach them several subjects, supporting the teacher or teaching by yourself. You will see from the very beginning that they are passionate about learning. Moreover, both childrens and teachers, will be very grateful if you support them with extracurricular activities and sports on a regular basis in the evenings.
It is advisable that you learn a few words and phrases in Swahili, which will be very helpful and appreciated by the children. Bringing teaching aids (flash cards, picture books, alphabet and number games, maps) with you is highly recommended, and needed. We promise you that it will be an experience that you will never forget!
* Schools in Tanzania are closed for 2 weeks in late April, during the month of August and December to January.

Volunteers in this field work alongside local teachers or on their own; at preschool, they teach basic English skills, and carry out basic childcare duties; at primary and secondary, they teach core subjects, such as English, mathematics, science, and can initiate extra-curricular activities after school such as art, music, theatre, sports or gardening; they may also carryout small and manageable community groups or individual tutoring outside class for adults. In some schools, you will prepare tests and exams and even correct exams; the longer you stay the more responsibilities you will receive.
Participants in the Volunteer in Cambodia programs should not count on teaching resources being available and many classes may have large numbers but it is a challenge that is highly rewarding. Please note, volunteers do not need to be a qualified or experienced teacher to participate on the Teaching project.

Volunteer teaching English in Uganda for young students at school. Since education in Uganda is considered a privilege, the young boys and girls will greatly benefit from you teaching native English to them. Though tuition is free (for up to four children and all orphans), families are sometimes unable to afford other fees or expenses, such as for equipment and books. While quality education for both boys and girls is crucial in reducing poverty and promoting gender equality, many schools in rural areas are struggling with overcrowded classes, shortage of skilled teachers, shortage of resources such as text books and support materials. Hence illiteracy rates among children of poorest families and communities are increasing and unemployment later in life can be a consequence.
“Volunteering in Uganda was one of the best experiences of my life! I would highly recommend it.” Lauren Cuscuna – USA

It is with my heart full of joy and emotion that I write to tell about my first day of work in the nursery. The children were so happy. When I arrived, they started yelling “Teacher, teacher …” It was VERY exciting.
I believe that no video, no photo can express what I felt … I just have to thank God for the opportunity. Family and friends for all encouragement for me to take this trip!
