Volunteer with elephants in Thailand, Surin, and join the centuries old tradition of training ‘domestic’ elephants by mahouts in Thailand.
The volunteer program aims to offer a responsible and sustainable alternative to the fate often faced by elephants in Thailand. The elephants are no longer needed in the timber industry to haul the tribes, and many elephants are taken to urban areas to beg for money and are often mistreated. Therefore, our elephant volunteer program continues to lead the way in Surin in helping to change attitudes towards elephant care for the better.
This Elephant Experience financially supports the local community and the wellbeing of the elephants. Whilst volunteering with the elephants, you will epxerience the local village life and culture. This gives you the opportunity to learn about rural Thai culture and to witness the incredible challenges that elephant communities and mahouts face in Thailand. Spend your days close and in personal touch with these magnificent elephants.
Since all the activities are about caring for the elephants and treating them with respect, we put our strict no riding policy. Therefore, on your work schedule you will walk the elephants through the river and bathe them. Moreover, you will plant and harvest food for the elephants and also feed them. Since we put the elephants in the first place, we base everything around a new approach to elephant care.
Meals are included whilst at the village – please budget around $10-15 USD per day when you’re not at the village.

With the Voluntour in Thailand program we offer you the best of the two worlds: combine the volunteer work with an unforgettable holiday in Thailand. With these volunteer vacations you will have fun, explore more of the country, make friends and live some unforgettable experiences.
During four weeks you will travel to four destinations in Thailand. Upon arrival you will spend two nights in Bangkok exploring and taking in the lights of the city. Then, in the following two weeks you will work as a volunteer work at two different volunteer projects. The first volunteer experience will be caring for elephants in Surin, the second a construction project in Sanghklaburi. Finally, you will enjoy two weeks relaxing and partying with friends on a paradise island.
For the first week you will meet and work with the magnificent, gentle elephants living in the manhout village in Surin, immersing yourself in rural culture, taking part in centuries old traditions.
Find the program to volunteer with the elephants in Thailand on IKPVA’s Homepage.
Then you will move on to Sangkhlaburi, working tirelessly and improving the lives of those less fortunate by providing much needed help with vital construction projects.
Finally, we think, you deserve a break on the island of Koh Phangan, a world famous party destination with some of the most beautiful beaches you can imagine! Your final two weeks will be spent with sand between your toes, soaking up the rays by day, and fire shows, delicious cocktails and good friends by night.
All transfers and accommodations are included.
Have a unique experience with childcare volunteering in Thailand at beautiful Surin.
You will start your volunteer work at a local temple childcare centre in Surin that provides support to a poor, rural community, by allowing parents and family members to go to work during the day to earn a living. By giving your time and affection you will be offering increased assistance for the children and support the local staff at the childcare centre which is often overworked, and you will also be helping the children in their care.
Whilst childcare volunteering in Thailand you will gain awareness and a deeper understanding of the local community and rural life. This is a great opportunity for cultural exchange. We believe, you will have a lot of fun with the children and eventually meet some incredible people.
Please budget US$ 10-15 per day for simple meals whilst in Surin and more for socializing / trips away.
