We have set up several programs for affordable volunteering in Ghana for you. There are actually two locations available, on the coast, at Ghana's Central Region.
The village of Achiase is located 15 minutes away from the larger town of Swedru, Ghana, about 3 hours from Accra, Ghana’s capital.
Senya, Ghana is located directly on the coast, about 2 hours from Accra.
Accommodation and meals are provided for all programs. The type of accommodation varies based on the service site. Volunteers will either live directly on site or in a volunteer house near the service site. In all accommodations the rooms for volunteers will be private separated from local youth or staff. Volunteer rooms will be shared with bunk beds.
Volunteer in Ghana programs start on the 1st and 15th of each month. Volunteers should plan to arrive one day ahead of the program
You can choose to volunteer from 2 to 24 weeks
Volunteers will fly into Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana. Volunteers will be greeted at the airport and will be taken to the chosen service site. Service sites are 2-4 hours from Accra depending on traffic. Orientation takes place the first day at your service site with the local staff. Volunteers are given a Ghana guidebook in advance, and this will be used during orientation.
Volunteers in Ghana must be at least 18 years old at the start of your placement.
All volunteers must have adequate volunteer travel insurance and are required to provide a criminal background check to Iko Poran prior to travelling or at orientation.
Fluency in English is required in all the projects.
Volunteer safety is our top priority. You will have a competent support and advice from the local team and project leaders. There will always be a member of the local team working with you at the projects. The local coordinators will give you all the information to have a safe and unforgettable experience.
There are no hidden costs. Our programs to volunteer in Ghana are highly affordable and have the best cost x benefit than any other.
Iko Poran is an NGO based in a developing country. We are dedicated to helping you help others, at the lowest possible price. We are interested in making volunteering abroad more accessible so that more people can help do really important work.
Participants in our Ghana programs normally find US$ 100 to be sufficient for weekly expenses in the country, but please bring more if you intend to travel at weekends, explore the country or if you enjoy a beer or two.
The program fee should be paid to the host country and it is due 30 days before the project start date.
